Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the substance was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for details.
A high-ranking official said the incident left him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
