Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a challenging period, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-term trainer Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.

The win also signifies the Russian has won 21 victories at twenty-one different events.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a title is really nice," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular outbursts on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and compete positively, reinforced by an better service.

The champion came back from a break down in the first set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors traded breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden professional championship, gained dominance to create a third set.

Moutet saved four initial chances in a close third set before the Russian won the break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner earned victory with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
